Humble Beginnings
Team OG emerged from the remnants of a lesser-known team called (Monkey) Business. The team's architects, Tal Aizik (Fly) and Johan Sundstein (N0tail), first crossed paths while playing Heroes of Newerth. They later joined a Dota 2 team, Fnatic. After a period of team hopping without significant success, they decided to change their approach. In August 2015, they established a new team named (monkey) Business, envisioning it as their pathway to triumph in the eSports arena.
Just two months later, that team was dissolved due to a lack of results. Little did Tal and Johan know that this was the genesis of their legendary Team OG. The pair firmly believed that if the team maintained cohesion long enough, no challenge would be insurmountable. This core principle guided the group's formation. While this strategy might seem sound on paper, it's exceptionally difficult to execute in reality – for most individuals, that is. However, for these iconic eSports stars, it proved to be their formula for success.
The Ascent of a Dominant Force
This breakthrough occurred during the 2015/2016 season. Team OG achieved a remarkable feat that other teams could only aspire to in their inaugural season. During that period, they secured first place in DreamLeague Season 4 and clinched the Frankfurt Major 2015 title. Following this initial success, the team experienced a brief period of stagnation before re-emerging strongly to claim the DreamLeague Season 5 title, the Manila Major 2016, and ESL Frankfurt 2016.
Consequently, OG earned a spot in The International 2016, a tournament where they were widely tipped as favorites. However, they did not win the tournament and were subsequently eliminated after two losses.
Disappointed by this outcome, OG undertook roster adjustments. Miracle-, Cr1t, and MoonMeander were replaced by Anathan "ana" Pham, Jesse "Jerax" Vainikka, and Gustav "s4" Magnusson.
Ongoing Roster Evolution (2020 to Present)
In 2020, ana took an extended break from Team OG until the next Dota Pro Circuit season. JerAx retired, and Ceb shifted focus to player development. Saksa Sazdov, MidOne Nai Zheng, and Sumail Hassan stepped in to fill these roles.
Sumail departed the team in July 2020, with Ceb returning to the active roster. MidOne left the lineup in March 2021, prompting a brief return for Ana before his retirement announcement in June. The team quickly re-signed Sumail and qualified for The International 2021, but were eliminated 2-0 by the eventual champions, Team Spirit, in the lower bracket. In November 2021, Sumail and Saksa departed, and Ceb retired. Popson and N0tail also stepped away from the active roster to pursue other interests.
In November 2021, OG unveiled a new roster comprising the following players:
- Mikhail "Misha" Agatov
- Artem "Yuragi" Golubiev
- Bozhidar "bzm" Bogdanov
- Ammar "ATF" Al-Assaf
- Tommy "Taiga" Le
Team OG's Top Performances in Different Esports
Team OG has made a significant mark in multiple esports games, and Kenyan players have followed their journey closely. Here's a look at their most impactful games.
Dota 2 Dominance
As previously mentioned, OG Esports has achieved immense success in Dota 2 competition since its inception. They are the first team to triumph in a remarkable four Dota 2 Valve Majors and stand as the only team to have won the Dota 2 World Championship on two separate occasions. Indeed, Team OG's accomplishments in Dota 2 tournaments remain unparalleled.
CS: GO Engagements
OG Esports entered the CS: GO scene in December 2019 with Mantuu, NBK-, Valde, and Aleksib as part of their roster. The current lineup features FlameZ, Niko, Mantuu, Aleksib, and Valde. While Team OG's achievements in CS: GO haven't reached the same heights as in Dota 2, their accomplishments in this game are still noteworthy.
Emerging in Valorant
OG made their Valorant debut in February 2021 with uNKOE, TviQ, OniBy, aKm, and Elllement on their roster. The team has participated in a limited number of Valorant tournaments so far. Fans eagerly anticipate bigger achievements from them in this title.
Why is Team OG popular?
OG Esports is a top and famous esport team, considering that it has won more Dota 2 tournaments than any other team. As mentioned earlier, they are the only team to win two Major Dota 2 Championships in a row. Their recent CS: GO, and Valorant teams have not achieved much, but their rosters are promising. Now, such a successful team would be popular among bettors. But what other factors make it one of the most popular eSports teams for betting?
A Wide range of betting markets
Among the esports betting markets available at Team OG esports betting sites are total maps, over/under, handicap bet, first map, map winner, outright winner, to mention but a few. Punters like it when they place their money where they want.
Bonuses
Punters will always find bonuses at some of the best OG esports betting sites. These offers provide extra funds to get bettors started and keep them playing, increasing their odds of winning.
Availability
Punters don't need to find the best esports betting sites to access Team OG matches. That's because the matches are available at virtually all esports betting sites.
Team OG's awards and results
No Dota 2 team holds such legendary status as Dota 2. The team has seen many highs, including winning two official Valve events in Dota 2 and winning Frankfurt and the Manila Major in 2016. After being eliminated from the 2016 International and managing only 9-12th in the Shanghai Major, OG went on to win the 2016 Boston Major and emerged 2nd in The Summit 6. In their own words, Reddit claimed that Team OG is the 'Kings of Dota.'
While the success achieved by this team may be matched or even surpassed by other eSports teams in the days to come, Team OG's place in the history of esports will forever be intact. Yes, the team might have had its difficulties, changing the roster now and then, but that was done only to ensure success. So, what results has this team achieved so far (as of 2022)? Well, we will focus on two esport games: Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO).
Dota 2
- The Frankfurt Major 2015- 1st
- The Manila Major 2016- 1st
- ESL One Frankfurt 2016- 1st
- The Boston Major 2016- 1st
- The Kiev Major 2017- 1st
- The International 2017- 7-8th

In terms of money prizes, the team took home $1,110,000 during the Frankfurt Major 2015, while the Manila Major 2016 and ESL One Frankfurt 2016 would see them bag $1,110,000 and $157, 273, respectively. That is not all; Team OG won another $1,000,000 and $1,000,000 in The Boston Major 2016 and The Kiev Major 2017, respectively.
That's a staggering amount of money, especially if a team wins in quick succession. August 2017 was yet another moment for the team to hit a massive prize pool of $617,198 during The International, even though the team did not come out on top. However, the following two years would come with big money winnings, including $11,234,158 (The International 2018) and $15,620,181 (The International 2019).

Best and most popular players of Team OG
Johan 'N0tail' Sundstein
N0tail is a popular Dota personality known for his in-game shot-calling and handling micro-intensive heroes. He is a founding member of Team OG, one of the best esports teams ever, with many achievements under his belt. From forming super teams and last-minute rosters to winning Majors and Aegis, the Dane has done and succeeded at almost everything there is to do.
Syed Sumail 'SumaiL' Hassan
He first burst onto the scene in 2015 and established himself as one of the world's best mid-players before making history at The International the same year. He helped Evile Geniuses win TI 2015 at the age of 16, becoming not only the tournament's youngest winner but also the first esports player to earn $1 million.
Topias 'Topson' Taavitsainen
Finn joined OG in 2018. At that time, he'd never been on a salaried top-level team and had only limited LANs experience. To many people's surprise, he got his chance to play on the biggest stage of them all, and he proved he deserved to be there. He had already won two titles in two years: TI8 and TI9. He has since earned a cult following of fans. Topias picks some of the most difficult heroes to play and makes it look easy. This is not surprising given that he started playing Dota at the tender age of eight.
Other most popular Team OG players included Yeik' MidOne' Nai Zheng and Martin' Saksa' Sazdov.
