Getting Started with CS: GO in Kenya

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, commonly known as CS:GO, stands as one of the most-watched and actively played esports tournaments within the Intel Extreme Masters circuit. In 2020, it attracted over 1 million viewers. CS:GO is a free-to-play first-person shooter (FPS) game that was launched in 2012.

The original Counter-Strike game began as a mod for Valve's incredibly popular game, Half-Life. Today, the CS series has expanded to four distinct titles.

Developed collaboratively by Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment, the game centers around two opposing teams, Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists, engaging in combat across various game modes. It remains a hugely popular title within the gaming community and consistently receives updates from Valve.

In 2018, Valve introduced a battle royale mode called "Danger Zone." Beyond this, there are nine other game modes, with "Bomb Defusal" being the most frequented. The game has garnered numerous accolades in the esports industry, including awards at The Game Awards in 2017, 2019, and 2020.

This installment is the fourth game in the expansive CS series and is accessible on Windows, macOS, Xbox 360, and PS3. Since its launch, Valve has consistently enriched the game with numerous new features, including fresh maps, powerful weapons, innovative game modes, and cosmetic skins. These skins played a crucial role in establishing a "virtual economy" within the game, which subsequently fueled the rise of esports betting and gambling.

CS: GO Esports Betting and Tournaments for Kenyan Players

CS:GO tournaments featuring the most substantial prize pools are known as Major Championships. These events began with a prize pool of $250,000 USD and have since escalated to $1,000,000 USD. Intel Extreme Masters has hosted one of these prestigious Counter-Strike Majors, though it was for CS 1.6, from 2008 to 2012.

Prior to the advent of CS:GO, the series faced an uncertain future in the esports landscape, as many players globally were hesitant to engage in competitive play with CS 1.6. The release of CS:GO in 2012 revitalized the esports spirit within the Counter-Strike community.

Although the initial version of the game had its teething problems, Valve consistently rolled out patches to enhance its performance. The very first CS:GO Major Championship, sponsored by Valve, was held in Sweden at DreamHack Winter 2013.

The game has not been without its share of controversies. Numerous players have been caught cheating, only to be banned by "Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC)" upon detection. Players found engaging in cheating during tournaments face permanent bans and, in some cases, expulsion from their teams.

The introduction of weapon skins paved the way for the emergence of online esports betting sites specifically designed for wagering these skins. This practice unfortunately led to instances of underage gambling, resulting in two lawsuits against Valve and various betting sites.
